Checked against real aviation job language

Recruiters often search by exact terms such as Part 145, RVSM, track and balance and MEL. Your resume gets a live keyword score for your role, and the terms you are missing are one tap to add. It is a guide to coverage, not a prediction of what any one employer's system will do.

Bullets written in maintenance and flight-ops language

No "team player with attention to detail." The builder's example bullets use the language of the hangar and the flight deck: phase checks, return-to-service documentation, NVG operations, dispatch releases. Adapt each one to your own aircraft and results.

Upload your old resume and we rebuild it

Drop in a PDF, Word or text file. We pull out your certificates, aircraft, flight time and experience, detect your role and score it. It all happens in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

How to write an aviation resume that gets you the interview

Aviation hiring screens a resume in two passes. A recruiter goes first, often searching an applicant tracking system such as Workday, iCIMS or Taleo for exact keywords: your certificate, Part 145, a specific aircraft. If you clear that, a hiring manager reads it, whether that is a director of maintenance, a chief pilot or a dispatch manager. They want your certificate, the aircraft you have worked on or flown, and a record that shows you can be trusted with a signature or a cockpit. This builder puts the answers for both readers on the first page.

A&P student & new grad resume

In a Part 147 program or just graduated? Lead with your exact certification status, then your school and hands-on lab work. Describe training by task, aircraft and manual, and do not call yourself an A&P mechanic until the certificate is issued.

A&P mechanic resume

Lead with your Airframe & Powerplant certificate and IA if you hold it. Name the aircraft and engines: "Gulfstream G550, Rolls-Royce BR710" beats "corporate jets". Reference the regs you work under (Part 91, 121, 135, 145) and the tasks: phase and letter checks, engine changes, troubleshooting, sheet metal, composites. Add numbers: aircraft returned to service, AOG calls cleared, audit findings. The example bullets in the builder follow that pattern.

Pilot resume

Certificates and ratings first (ATP, CPL, CFI/CFII/MEI, type ratings), then a flight time table with total, PIC, SIC, multi, turbine, instrument and night. State your medical class and the operation type you flew under (Part 121, 135, 91, 141). List aircraft by model and keep hours exact and current. One page for first-officer and regional applicants; two for captains and chief pilots.

Avionics technician resume

Spell out the systems: Garmin G1000/G5000, Collins Pro Line 21 and Fusion, Honeywell Primus Epic, ADS-B, TCAS, FMS, autopilot. Include FCC GROL, NCATT AET, and any STC install, troubleshooting, wire harness fabrication, pin-outs and bonding checks. Call out software and test equipment you have run and whether you have RII or inspection authorization.

Sheet metal & structures resume

Name the SRM chapters, materials and processes: aluminum and composite repair, rivet types, doublers and patches, fuselage and wing skins, flight control rigging, corrosion treatment, NDT methods. Cite the aircraft: Boeing 737/767, Airbus A320, Citation, King Air. Employers want to know you can read a drawing and make a repair that passes inspection first time.

Aircraft dispatcher resume

Open with your FAA Aircraft Dispatcher certificate. List flight planning tools (Jeppesen, Sabre, Lido, AIMS, FlightKeys), weather and NOTAM analysis, ETOPS, MEL/CDL handling, fuel planning, and how many daily departures you have released. Part 121 or 135 experience should be explicit. Mention irregular-operations work: diversions, reroutes, crew legality calls.

Helicopter mechanic resume

Rotorcraft employers want airframes by name (AS350, EC135, Bell 407/429, S-76, UH-60) and the work: track and balance, main and tail rotor component changes, transmission and gearbox inspections, HUMS downloads. HAA/EMS, utility, offshore and tour experience each read differently, so say which one. List any factory schools.

Inspector, QC & IA resume

Make the authorizations unmistakable: IA, RII, Part 145 inspector designation, DAR or ODA if applicable. Show the scope: conformity inspections, final inspections, maintenance records review, corrective action and audit response (FAA, EASA, IS-BAO, ARGUS, Wyvern). Numbers matter here too: findings closed, audits passed, records brought into compliance.

Aviation management resume

Director of maintenance, chief pilot, maintenance manager and station manager resumes should pair technical credentials with budgets, headcount, fleet size, on-time performance, safety metrics and regulatory programs you own (CASS, SMS, RVSM, EASA). Lead with the scale of what you ran, then prove you still understand the floor.

Military to civilian transition

Translate the rating or AFSC into civilian titles (2A5X1 → Aircraft Maintenance Technician, 15T → UH-60 mechanic, 6013 → Helicopter Mechanic). State your A&P status, including "written exams complete, practical scheduled". Convert aircraft to civilian equivalents where they exist and keep the mission language out: employers want tasks, aircraft, hours and results.

Aviation resume questions

What should an A&P mechanic resume include?
Your FAA Airframe & Powerplant certificate (and IA if you hold it), aircraft types you have maintained, inspection and repair experience with specific tasks, regulatory references such as 14 CFR Part 43, 91, 121, 135 or 145, tooling and software like CAMP, CORRIDOR or Traxxall, and measurable results: aircraft returned to service, downtime reduced, audit findings closed.
What should a pilot resume include?
Certificates and ratings (ATP, Commercial, CFI, CFII, MEI, Instrument, Multi-engine), type ratings, medical class, a flight time summary (total, PIC, SIC, multi-engine, turbine, instrument, night), aircraft flown, the operation type (Part 91, 121, 135, 141) and a short professional summary. Keep flight hours exact and current.
Is the AviHire resume builder free?
Yes. Building, editing and downloading your aviation resume as a PDF is free. No account, password or email is required. You can optionally join AviHire's free list for aviation job alerts, career tips and offers, and unsubscribe at any time.
Does this resume pass applicant tracking systems?
The templates use a single-column layout, standard section headings, real text (no images, text boxes or tables for content) and system-safe fonts, so they are built to parse cleanly in systems like Workday, iCIMS, Taleo and Greenhouse. The score is a keyword-coverage check against role-specific aviation terms, not a simulation of any employer's system.
Should I put my FAA certificate number on my resume?
It is optional, though many maintenance employers expect it. Employers can confirm your certificate in the FAA Airmen Registry. On AviHire, candidates are verified against the FAA registry before they can apply, so employers already know your certificate is real.
How long should an aviation resume be?
One page for under 10 years of experience; two pages for senior technicians, inspectors, captains, directors of maintenance and chief pilots. Put certificates and aircraft experience near the top because hiring managers scan for them first.
Can I use this for a military to civilian aviation resume?
Yes. Translate MOS/AFSC/rating titles into civilian terms, list your A&P status or pending exams, and convert military aircraft and hours to civilian equivalents. The example bullets show civilian phrasing.

Resume done? Apply where your certificate is already verified.

AviHire checks every candidate against the FAA Airmen Registry before they can apply, so employers know your A&P, pilot or dispatcher certificate is real the moment your resume lands. Jobs from 400+ aviation employers, updated daily.
