Job Description:

The Quality Conformance Manager II will administer the ongoing development of the Quality Management System. This role involves investigating specific quality issues arising from system failures or design deficiencies to reduce the cost of non-quality and foster continuous improvement. The mission is to support quality on-time and on-cost delivery by ensuring the right first time to increase customer loyalty and satisfaction.

This position requires the resolution of complex quality issues and continuous improvement projects by setting measurement standards and improvements to enhance performance, reliability, and repeatability of processes in order to meet regulatory, company, and customer requirements.

Our Engineers at the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing facility take our aircraft from concept to customer delivery – working with production teams on every aspect of assembly, including managing technical information, quality control, maintenance tasks, and health & safety along flowlines and flightlines. Your Working Environment:

The Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility for commercial aircraft is located at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley, opened in 2015. This facility produces A320 Family aircraft and added a second product line for the A220 in 2019. It strengthens the U.S. aerospace industry and is part of Airbus’ strategy to enhance its global competitiveness by meeting the growing needs of customers in the United States and beyond.

Your Challenges:

Quality Management System Support: 60%

  • Demonstrate creativity, propose, and implement innovations using lean methodologies and data analytic techniques to meet company objectives.
  • Analyze non-conformities, aircraft logbook, audit findings, and operational surveillance to initiate appropriate corrective actions to avoid recurrence.
  • Define and improve Quality Processes by identifying cost of non-quality drivers and improving processes to reduce defects.
  • Generate key performance indicator reports to measure quality performance and communicate to management.
  • Support inspection personnel in determining root cause and corrective action when issues arise.
  • Develop dashboards and visual management tools to identify deficiencies in the quality system.
  • Create statistical data for non-conformities, key performance indicators, and other quality metrics to identify trends.
  • Establish a digital platform for the collection and monitoring of FOD, lost tool, and lost item reports.
  • Interact with collaborators to establish feedback monitoring, identify trends, and highlight opportunities for improvement.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly performance reports.
  • Review and recommend updates to company manuals, policies, procedures, and forms.
  • Implement and monitor control plans, inspection plans, industrial qualification, calibration, and metrology to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Monitor the qualification of new personnel through the predefined requirements process.
  • Introduce and qualify new tools and jigs into the process flow.
  • Perform operational surveillance to ensure compliance with regulatory and company standards.
  • Act as a multi-functional team member to perform impact analysis for out of tolerance calibration reports, tooling, and potential process deficiencies.
  • Participate in periodic meetings with quality, supporting departments, and design office personnel.

Continuous Improvement: 25%

  • Utilize plan do check act, 5 why, fishbone analysis, kaizen events, and other root cause analysis tools for continuous improvement.
  • Identify improvement opportunities and implement corrective action plans through a Multi-Functional Team approach.
  • Create quality flash alerts to increase awareness of issues and prevent recurrence.
  • Facilitate Practical Problem Solving activities.
  • Review audit reports, findings, operational surveillance, personnel qualification records, and calibration records to identify opportunities for corrective actions.
  • Implement changes in work conditions and use of equipment to enhance efficiency, safety, and quality.
  • Utilize lessons learned methodology to mitigate risks.
  • Apply lean principles to drive improvement and efficiency of process flow.
  • Utilize active listening and customer service skills to interact with team members and follow through with proposals and corrective actions.

Compliance: 15%

  • Implement and monitor aspects of the Quality Management System (QMS) in compliance with all applicable regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform operation surveillance to measure compliance with regulations, standards, and company processes.
  • Ensure adherence to service level agreements.
  • Support internal and external audits and follow-up activities.
  • Ensure validation and surveillance of special processes utilized.
  • Validate the implementation of customer and type design holder requirements in the quality management system.

Additional Responsibilities:

Your Boarding Pass:

  • Required: Bachelor of Science Degree in technology, aviation, engineering, business, manufacturing, or equivalent experience.
  • Required: 5 years in aviation quality, industrial or manufacturing engineering, data analytics, business administration, or maintenance related fields.
  • Knowledge of quality-related topics, including proactive prevention, continuous improvement, and quality management systems.
  • Good knowledge of non-conformance management and Root Cause Analysis methods.
  • Knowledge of EASA/FAA Regulations.
  • Strong Practical Problem Solving skills.
  • Understanding of Kaizen approach to Manufacturing.
  • Customer service oriented and attention to detail.
  • Active listening skills for teamwork success.
  • Ability to adapt in changing environments.
  • Ability to persuade team members regarding process adherence and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting.

  • Knowledge of quality management systems for aircraft design and manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of aircraft mechanical & electrical installation.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Technology, Aerospace, Aviation Management, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Preferred: 5 years of experience in Airbus quality inspection, manufacturing, or industrial/manufacturing engineering.
  • Preferred: Valid FAA A&P, ASQ Quality Engineer Certificate.

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Required: None.
  • Preferred: Valid FAA A&P, ASQ Quality Engineer Certificate.
  • Fluency in French, German, and/or Spanish.

Technical Systems Proficiency:

  • Familiarity with SAP systems.
  • Intermediate level computer typing skills.
  • Intermediate understanding of Google Suite.
  • Ability to initiate virtual meetings.

Travel Required:

  • 10% Domestic and International.

  • Vision: Able to see and read computer screens, documents, reports, and engineering drawings.

  • Equipment Operation: Able to operate office and personal electronic equipment and production tools.
  • Carrying: Able to carry documents and electronic equipment up to 30 lbs/14 kg.
  • Lifting: Able to lift documents and equipment up to 30 lbs/14 kg.
  • Pushing/Pulling: Able to maneuver small office furniture and some equipment.
  • Sitting: Able to sit for extended periods during meetings and working on a computer.
  • Squatting/Kneeling: Able to access low shelving as needed.
  • Standing: Able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor.
  • Travel: Able to travel independently and on short notice.
  • Walking: Able to walk through office and production areas, including uneven surfaces.
