Safety Inspector (2nd shift)

Summary

Safety Inspectors are required to have a strong understanding of aviation safety principles, aircraft operation and maintenance, AAR policies, and federal laws. Primarily, inspectors ensure mechanics, technicians, QC inspectors, aircraft, and other equipment function properly. Troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repair skills are also part of the job.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensure all Repair Station personnel comply with current Federal Aviation Regulations, Repair Station and Quality Control Manual, and Policies and Procedures.
• Demonstrate excellent communication skills, professionalism, and a positive customer service attitude without compromising quality.
• Ensure maintenance and inspection personnel use approved or accepted data issued by the manufacturer, FAA, and/or Customer.
• Ensure adequate inspection aids, special tools, and equipment are available and maintained in a serviceable condition.
• Oversee facility technician training requirements.
• Oversee the facility tool control and tool calibration program.
• Ensure final inspections are properly performed on all work completed before it is released for Return to Service.
• Conduct audits as required.
• Ensure incoming parts, supplies, and articles undergo receiving inspection in accordance with repair station policies and procedures.
• Perform other tasks as reasonably assigned by the supervisor.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and customer-reported quality escapes, compiling objective evidence through interviews, document reviews, and audits.
• Provide direction and recommendations for resolving non-conformance through corrective action plans and comprehensive fixes.
• Engage in various assignments including:
  • Evaluating technicians and the repair facility for continuing adequacy.
  • Evaluating technicians working on the aircraft training program.
  • Inspecting aircraft and related equipment for maintenance accomplishment.
  • Challenging technicians and inspectors on adherence to established policies and procedures.
  • Investigating all accidents, incidents, and reported customer quality escapes.

Qualifications

• Familiar with FAA regulations, 14 CFR 43, 145, and 121.
• Experience maintaining compliance with OSHA regulations and record keeping preferred.
• Ability to audit work packages, ensuring all assigned work has been properly completed and documented.
• Able to competently research and retrieve technical data.
• Ability to interpret blueprints, drawings, and other technical data.
• Five years of hands-on Aircraft Maintenance experience or five years of specialized experience in a related aviation field.
• Proficient with PC applications (Word Processing, Spreadsheets, and Data Analysis tools).
• Strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Able to analyze information and utilize problem-solving skills.
• Capable of working under adverse conditions in a production/aircraft hangar environment.

Safety Inspector - Maintenance

• Experience involving the maintenance and repair of airframes, power plants, and systems of multi-engine aircraft of more than 12,500 pounds maximum certificated takeoff weight maintained under an airworthiness maintenance and inspection program.
• Aircraft maintenance experience in a repair station; air carrier or airline repair facility; military repair facility; or local, state, or Federal governmental agency.
• Experience involving the maintenance and repair of airframes, power plants, and aircraft systems with responsibility for certifying airworthiness.
• Aircraft maintenance work experience within the last 3 years.

Safety Inspector - Avionics

• Aircraft avionics experience involving the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of installed avionics systems on aircraft.
• Avionics maintenance experience on aircraft of more than 12,500 pounds maximum certificated takeoff weight.
• Aircraft avionics work experience (which could include supervision or auditing) in a repair station; air carrier repair facility; military repair facility; or local, state, or Federal governmental agency within the last 3 years.

Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• FAA A&P certificate.
• ASQ, ISO, or similar certificate preferred.
• Formal Quality Assurance/auditing training preferred.
• College or University 2/4 year degree preferred.

Physical Demands

• May be exposed to high levels of noise, dust, vibration, and chemical fumes (within OSHA limits).
• Able to climb on ladders and platforms occasionally attaining heights of various aircraft types.
