Job Overview and Responsibilities
 

Counsel for in-house legal department reporting to the Managing Counsel – Head of Antitrust & Global Competition with day-to-day responsibility for antitrust counseling and compliance to the Company on all aspects of global antitrust and competition related legal matters.

• Supports the Managing Counsel – Head of Antitrust & Global Competition in management of all practice areas.
• Provides training to Global Network & Alliances, Pricing/Revenue Management, Cargo, Sales, Human Resources, Environmental/Sustainability, United Airline Ventures, Corporate Development, and other business groups with respect to antitrust compliance.
• Provides direct strategic antitrust support for various business groups to assist with their commercial objectives.
• Responds to U.S. and foreign governmental inquiries, including confidential interview requests, civil investigative demands, and requests for information.
• Conducts and manages antitrust audits. 

This role is Hybrid out of either Chicago or Washington, DC.  

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications): 

• Bachelor’s Degree and Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree required.
• Member in good standing of the bar in any jurisdiction of the United States.
• Minimum 5 years of experience counseling clients in all aspects of antitrust law.
• Minimum 5 years of experience dealing directly with the U.S. Department of Justice, state attorneys general, and other governmental entities with respect to antitrust issues.
• Extensive knowledge of all relevant aspects of U.S. antitrust law required.
• Providing timely, clear, accurate and practical advice to business clients on antitrust issues.
• Preparing and presenting antitrust training to business clients.
• Working closely with business teams on strategic transactions and joint venture analyses, as well as drafting and defense of presentations to regulators.
• Cost-effective engagement with outside antitrust counsel.
• Gaining credibility and developing strong working relationships with colleagues and business clients.
• Working well in cross-functional team settings.
• Attention to detail.
• Prioritization and handling multiple tasks within tight deadlines.
• Working independently and meeting deadlines.
• Excellent communication and advocacy skills.
• Strong work ethic
• Proficiency in AI tools (e.g., Harvey, Microsoft Copilot)
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship.
• Successful completion of interviews required to meet job qualification.
• Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position.
    

What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications): 

• Law firm and/or government agency experience strongly preferred. 
• Corporate clients experience a material plus.
• Experience with international competition laws.
• Experience with U.S. Department of Transportation rules & regulations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and electronic discovery tools.
