Avionics Maintenance Technician - 2nd Shift

Overview

Our 2nd shift schedule is Monday-Thursday, 3pm-1am. The shift incentive includes a 10% -15% premium, paid lunch, 3 day weekends, formal airframe training and eligibility to transfer to 1st shift after 3 years.

Responsibilities

What you can expect as an Avionics Maintenance Technician at West Star:

• Troubleshooting and repairing problems to the component level on avionics units (i.e. Navs, Coms, Pulse, Radar, Audio and Autopilot Systems), as well as the aircraft systems.
• Perform general avionics support items on aircraft, including but not limited to removal and installation of panels and components and repair work.
• Troubleshooting and evaluation of systems on the aircraft when designated.
• Inspection and evaluation of the aircraft and components when designated.
• Aircraft movement and performance verification of systems.
• Maintenance and repair of shop facility, equipment and tooling to support operations.
• Work with customers in project management, pricing and customer support roles.
• Work independently on projects.
• Any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
• Effectively and clearly communicate (i.e., speak, write, read) in English.
• Basic computer skills to navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance databases.

Requirements/Qualifications

Your Education:
A High school diploma or equivalent. Electronics or Avionics factory training is preferred. A valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal, but not mandatory.

Your Experience:

• Tech I: 0-2 years of experience in avionics, military avionics or electrical field. Limited to no knowledge of the position requiring close supervision.
• Tech II: 2-4 years of experience in avionics or military avionics field. Considerable knowledge of the job with a broad understanding of detailed aspects. General supervision needed.
• Tech III: 4-6 years of experience in avionics or military avionics field. Full knowledge of the job and complete understanding of detailed aspects. Limited supervision required.
• Master Technician: 6+ years’ experience with corporate/business avionics systems. Exclusive knowledge in all areas of the job. A subject matter expert with comprehensive knowledge of the job.

Your Initiative: We’re looking for team players who are self-motivated and able to perform in a fast-paced environment where working under specific deadlines and time constraints will be common. Dealing with customers and the capacity to perform work with minimal supervision will also be required.

Your Sense of Responsibility:

• Attend work every day as scheduled to include overtime and weekend assignments.
• Notify supervisor in advance of shift starting if unable to work.
• Must have reliable transportation to get to work each and every day.
• Perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.
• Follow all company and safety rules during performance of duties.
• Maintain customer-oriented work habits.

Other particulars

Physical Requirements:
Lifts 50 lbs.
Routine walking, bending and squatting or sitting.
Routine or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands.
Standing for long periods of time.
Climb ladders and stairs, work in small restricted areas.

Mental Requirements:
Understanding and implementation of regulations and guidelines.
Troubleshoot, evaluate and perform functional tests for various avionics and instrument systems.
Work with others in a professional manner.

Supervision:
Work under supervision of assigned Avionics Team Leader.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a hangar environment subject to extreme temperature variations from very cold to very hot. Work outside during aircraft runs will occur. Varied positions in and around the aircraft.

Personal hand tools supplied by the mechanic.
Pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical equipment.
Jacks, stands, lifts and other support devices.
Tugs, power carts and other engine powered equipment.
Crimpers, soldering iron and heat guns.
Personal computer and work order prints.
