Description

Overview

The ABX Airline Aircraft Engineer will provide engineering and technical support to aircraft operations and maintenance activities. This includes the preparation of engineering documentation for modification and repair of aircraft structure, systems, and components; researching and defining required materials, parts, tooling, processes, and procedures; developing work instructions; evaluating special tasks; determining accomplishment and scheduling requirements; and performing other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering and technical support to aircraft operations and maintenance, including preparation of documentation for modification and repair of aircraft structures, systems, and components.
  • Evaluate manufacturer service bulletins, service letters, service aids, FAA Airworthiness Directives, and Federal Aviation Regulations for applicability and implementation.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and manage engineering projects and documentation to support maintenance and modifications driven by operational, reliability, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop work instructions, define special tasks, determine scheduling requirements, and identify necessary materials, parts, tooling, processes, and procedures.
  • Design and analyze structural repairs and the installation or improvement of aircraft components and systems.
  • Communicate and coordinate with internal departments, OEMs, and the FAA (including DERs) to implement modifications and obtain approvals for major repairs or alterations.
  • Evaluate new aircraft equipment and systems, preparing engineering reports assessing safety, reliability, and economic impact.
  • Develop, manage, and maintain technical data and documentation, including engineering orders, reports, STCs, drawings, diagrams, and project files.
  • Define and develop operational checks, test procedures, and validation requirements.
  • Provide guidance to engineering personnel, component research staff, and external vendors.
  • Coordinate across departments to ensure timely, integrated, and effective results.
  • Support airline programs including Weight and Balance, ETOPS/ECMC, and Engine Condition Monitoring (ECM).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • BS Engineering or Engineering Technology OR AS Engineering Technology or related field plus 2 years of airline/aerospace engineering experience OR BS (any discipline) plus 2 years of airline/aerospace engineering experience OR more than 5 years aviation-related engineering experience with an A&P license and at least 10 years of heavy transport category aircraft maintenance experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, system schematics, wiring diagrams, and other complex data associated with aircraft repair and modifications.
  • Familiar with CAD/drawing programs.
  • Knowledge and practical skills in technical subjects including Structures, Hydraulics, Avionics, Electrical, Pneumatics, Fuel, and Powerplant Systems.
  • Strong written and oral technical communication skills with the ability to describe, discuss, and resolve technical questions and problems.
  • Ability to research and analyze technical data, information, and graphics materials to ensure accurate, complete, and understandable results.
  • Travel is required once yearly and/or as needed.

Preferred

  • Airframe and Powerplant license
  • Six Sigma training
  • Working knowledge and training with CAD programs
  • Working knowledge and training on Boeing aircraft
  • Exposure/experience with commercial air transport aircraft
  • A330 Engineering experience
